Victoria Andrus accepted into the Spring 2016 Bismarck State College Early Entry program

2016 Feb 19

Victoria Andrus is one of more than 490 North Dakota high school students starting their beyond at Bismarck State College while still in high school through the BSC Early Entry program in Spring 2016.

Early Entry allows students to take college courses while still participating in classes and extracurricular activities at their own high schools. High school sophomores, juniors and seniors have the opportunity to take college courses and receive college credit, which also may be used to meet high school graduation requirements. Early Entry shortens the time it takes to complete a degree, provides a glimpse into college life and coursework and encourages students to consider higher education.

"Earning college credit in high school is a great way to get a head start on your college education. By taking college courses while in high school, students earn a few college credits and lighten the stress of their freshman year in college. It can ease the transition from high school to college, giving the student time to adjust to more rigorous academic expectations," says Marla Hagemeister, BSC Alternative Learning Coordinator.

To qualify for Early Entry, a student must be a high school sophomore, junior or senior, have a cumulative 3.0 GPA and meet any course placement scores and/or prerequisites.

BSC offers a wide range of courses that cover the general education requirements for a broad range of degree programs. BSC is regionally accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. As a result of this accreditation, course credits transfer without difficulty. All institutions within the North Dakota University System accept any course approved by the General Education Transfer Agreement (GERTA).
