Patricia Romanyshyn awarded Harvey Thorson Memorial Scholarship

2015 Aug 5

The Bismarck State College Foundation has recognized Patricia Romanyshyn of Dickinson, N.D., as the recipient of the Harvey Thorson Memorial Scholarship. The $2,000 scholarship, awarded $1,000 per year, will help Romanyshyn pursue a degree from BSC beginning in the fall of 2015.

The Harvey Thorson Memorial Scholarship is awarded to students who live south and west of the Missouri River and have demonstrated academic excellence. Recipients must carry 15 credit hours at BSC and earn a 3.5 GPA the first semester to qualify for the second semester award.

The Harvey Thorson Estate established this academic excellence scholarship with the BSC Foundation in 2005. A man who loved the land, Harvey Thorson lived on his family's homestead near Almont, N.D., most of his life, enriching that community and surrounding region as businessman, mentor, philanthropist, and unflagging volunteer, and worked as a licensed funeral director for 50 years serving the Almont, Dickinson, and Mott communities in North Dakota.

The BSC Foundation is committed to the encouragement and support of academic excellence. Through the support of many generous benefactors, the BSC Foundation is able to budget more than $625,000 in scholarship awards each year.
